Abstract

The downstream processing of crude palm oil (CPO) is one of the strategies to increase the added value of the palm oil industry, promote economic growth, and support sustainable development in Riau Province. Downstream processing involves transforming CPO into various value-added products, such as cooking oil, biodiesel, oleochemicals, and other derivative products. This study aims to examine the development of CPO downstream processing in Riau, particularly from technological, economic, social, environmental, policy, and governance perspectives. This study employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method. The findings show that technological developments, including advanced extraction, refining technologies, and lean manufacturing, can improve the efficiency and added value of palm oil products. However, CPO downstream processing still faces several challenges, particularly in ensuring equitable economic benefits, environmental management, policy implementation, and coordination among stakeholders. The use of digital technology also has the potential to improve the efficiency and governance of the palm oil industry, but it requires stronger policy support and community involvement. Therefore, stronger collaboration among the government, industry, communities, and academia is needed to ensure that CPO downstream processing in Riau develops in an inclusive and sustainable manner and provides broader benefits to society
