Political parties in Indonesia are facing a chronic crisis of public confidence stemming from weak internal democracy, the concentration of power, and rising oligarchic practices that undermine the parties' role in voicing the people's aspirations. This study aims to analyze five key structural issues—internal authoritarianism, stalled leadership renewal, dynastic politics, oligarchy and transactional practices, as well as weaknesses in accountability and cadre development—and to formulate a comprehensive reform framework. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach that includes a literature review and content analysis of party documents, regulations, and institutional reports (such as the 2025 Political Party Integrity Index/IIPP and KPK recommendations), the study finds that the concentration of power among key leaders creates structural barriers to reform and paves the way for family-based succession, while oligarchy and transactional practices fuel widespread corruption, collusion, and nepotism (KKN) and degrade the quality of cadre development. Party accountability levels were found to be very weak; the financial dimension score on the IIPP stood at only 44.5 percent, placing it in the low-integrity category. The study concludes that internal party reform requires simultaneous interventions, including the imposition of term limits, bans on political dynasties, financing transparency, and the strengthening of performance evaluation systems and periodic public oversight. Recommendations are addressed to party officials, the government and parliament (DPR), and civil society to foster political parties that are more democratic, accountable, and responsive to their constituents.
